Botox FAQ from Dermacenter MD
Dynamic wrinkles are caused by contraction of the same muscles used when you smile, laugh or frown. After years of repeated muscle use, these lines give an appearance on the face of being tired, sad, angry or aged – even when you do not feel that way. The lines are likely deeper when you do show the emotion. Now you can prevent the formation of dynamic wrinkles with botulinum toxin.
What is botulinum toxin?
Botulinum toxin for cosmetics is a booming advancement in cosmetic therapy. It is used to effectively and safely improve the appearance of frown lines, forehead creases and “crow’s feet.” Botulinum toxin type A has been used since 1980 for muscle diseases of the eye, and in 1987, was FDA approved for temporary improvement of wrinkles in the glabellar area. Botulinum toxin is a purified protein administered in a simple non-surgical procedure that blocks nerve signals temporarily.
What is treatment like?
Treatment involves administration of botulinum toxin directly into the muscles that cause wrinkles via a few tiny microinjections. The treatment is very well tolerated by most clients and takes only a few minutes with no “downtime.” The pain is minimal and you may resume normal activities immediately.
Did You Know?
- Botulinum toxin injection is a leading non-surgical cosmetic procedure.
- Client satisfaction rating is higher than most cosmetic enhancements.
- Dermatologists are trained specifically in the skin, yielding the best results for you.
- Dr. Moore knows your face is the most important image you put forth and he takes pride in helping enhance your appearance (*he administers his own injections, not a nurse or assistant.)
What results can you expect?
Botox injections help smooth out dynamic wrinkles, leading to a more youthful and pleasant appearance. You can see results within days after treatment and improvement continues for the first month. Results typically last up to 4 months. After that, you may be ready to return for a follow-up treatment.
Are there side effects?
Most people experience only brief minor discomfort. Some reported side effects after botulinum toxin cosmetic injection include headache, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, temporary eyelid droop and nausea. Rarely serious allergic reactions have been reported. If you have a neurologic disorder, botulinum toxin may be contraindicated.
Have patients been happy with results?
In recent years, Botulinum toxin type A cosmetic injection has become one of the most popular physician–administered cosmetic procedures in the U.S. Surveys indicate many people feel it is a strong way to invest in yourself.
Our Botox Cosmetic clients have said:
“I love not having the wrinkles anymore. I also look happier.”
“Dr. Moore did a great job on my brow lift.”
“This did not hurt, it was so easy I will do it again.”
“Dr. Moore did the injection himself and it did great. I actually had another person inject me in the past and it didn’t work. Dr. Moore is the only one for my Botox, he does it right.”
